Keith Urban will undergo a minor throat surgery later this month to remove a polyp from his vocal cords, it was announced on Thursday. The out-patient procedure will require the Australian country star to spend an undetermined amount of time on vocal rest, clearing his live schedule for the rest of 2011.
The surgery and rehab period will also force Urban, 44, to postpone the All for the Hall benefit concert for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Jan. 18 at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. He was set to host the show, which had lined up Rascal Flatts, Vince Gill and Alison Krauss, among others, to perform.

Until he actually goes under the knife, the "Sweet Thing" star will continue to honor his already scheduled one-song performances. All other appearances will be rescheduled in the new year, the announcement on his website said. Those may include a pair of Grand Ole Opry dates, for Nov. 12 and 26.
Urban's string of hits include Billboard Country Songs No. 1s "Somebody Like You," "Days Go By" and "Better Life." In 2006 he married fellow Australian Nicole Kidman and they have two daughters together.
Urban follows British vocalist Adele and KISS frontman Paul Stanley among recent singers who have announced a need for throat surgery.
