Lady Gaga's anti-bullying foundation
Lady Gaga's anti-bullying foundation_ Lady Gaga announced Wednesday she is launching a charitable project called the Born This Way Foundation to support young people and fight bullying.

The non-profit effort, headed by the 25-year-old singer and her mom, Cynthia Germanotta, will support "youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development."

The project, named after the title track from Lady Gaga's last album, will also "utilize digital mobilization as one of the means to create positive change," according to a statement.

"Together we hope to establish a standard of Bravery and Kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment," the statement added.

"My mother and I have initiated a passion project. We call it the Born This Way Foundation. Together we hope to establish a standard of Bravery and Kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment."

The foundation will partner with other groups including the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation as well as the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University.

The Grammy winner is currently putting together an advisory board in advance of the foundation's formal launch in 2012.
