Christmas day shooting : Police Find Seven Dead in Dallas-Area Apartment
The victims, who have not been identified as of press time, died of gunshot wounds and were found scattered in the apartment kitchen and living-room at around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Police are still investigating the scene for clues on what started the incident.
Sergeant Robert Eberling of the Grapevine Police Department said two handguns were found near next to the bodies, which were laying near a decorated tree. He said there are indications that they just celebrated Christmas and had opened their gifts before the shooting.
Police are pretty confident that the shooter is among the deceased inside the apartment and are not actively looking for a shooter that they believe is at large.
According to one report by Grapevine Police Lieutenant Todd Dearing, the investigators believe that all the victims were related, and police are searching for other relatives for more information. Some of relatives were visiting and lived out of town.
A total of seven victims were found deceased in one apartment, and Lieutenant Dearing said that’s never happened before in Grapevine.
Police received a 911 call from the residence at approximately 11:30 a.m., but it was an open-ended call, which means the line was open but no one was saying anything. Police and fire arrived on the scene within minutes and entered the middle-class apartment when no one responded at the door. In most states, officers are allowed to enter a residence without a warrant if there’s an open-ended call for help.
Most of the nearby apartments were vacant and neighbors didn’t report hearing anything unusual during the Christmas Day shooting.
