Lindsay once rescued her youngest brother Dakota, whom she nicknames "Codester," from drowning.

In an August 2007 issue of Entertainment Weekly, an anonymous film studio executive was quoted saying, "Lindsay's troubles are what made her popular. Her movies don't sell. She's a pain to work with. I think she's done."

James Robinson, who produced the 2007 film Georgia Rule and wrote the infamous complaint letter to Lindsay about her lack of professionalism, later admitted that despite everything, he would hire her again in a heartbeat. Robinson said that he felt Lindsay was "one of the most talented young actresses in Hollywood today," and if she got her act together, he would put her in a movie right away.

Jane Fonda, Lindsay's on-screen grandmother in Georgia Rule recalled in an interview how Lindsay was late in getting to the set one day, and an irritated Fonda said to her, "Get your a*s over here!" Later, Lindsay ran and told someone, "Barbarella just yelled at me!" Lindsay: (in May 2007) I'm at the point where I think 'Oh my God I'm going to go out!' I work hard enough and I know how to take care of myself. I don't know what 's going to happen tomorrow.

Lindsay: My mom is going to kill me for talking about sleeping with people. But I don't want to put myself in the position where I'm in a monogamous relationship right now. I'm not dating just one person. Sex and the City changed everything for me because those girls would sleep with so many people.

Lindsay: I don't know if I am cut out to playing a bad character or not - I really should give it a shot. I would like to play the voice of a baddie, but that's really just a cop-out!

Lindsay: Life is full of risks anyway, why not take them?

Lindsay: I'll probably pursue doing more movies, but not horror or movies with killers in them. I'll try to stick to happy movies. I want to act and direct like Jodie Foster. I admire her because she went to college and she's still doing the same thing.

Lindsay: I write a lot of lyrics and I'm involved in the producing process, because it's like, if I'm singing it, I want it to be something that I can relate to.

Lindsay: How can you not like Britney Spears?

Lindsay: I am happy being able to play roles with people my age because once you do something really mature there is no turning back.

Lindsay: Marriage is a big deal, but who's to say I'm not going to pull a Vegas and get married to see what it's like for a minute?

Lindsay: So many people preach that they love fashion, but really it's what I live for!

Lindsay: (following her break-up with Wilmer Valderrama, where she dropped over 25 pounds, and put on an IV) I was going through a lot of stuff and not thinking about my body... I nearly died!

Lindsay: I love my red hair. It makes me spunkier.

Lindsay: (after becoming a brunette) I feel a bit classier with this hair.

Lindsay: (on going to college) I would go to NYU. I'm a New York girl, and it's easy to get to London and L.A. from here.

Lindsay: (admitting she is stubborn) When someone tells me not to do something, I'll do it more.

Lindsay: I'm not skinny for the wrong reasons. It's not because I'm bulimic or anorexic or doing drugs. Compared to a lot of actresses my age, I'm actually overweight.

Lindsay: If I had dated as many men as they say I have, then I’d be dead by now!

Lindsay: (on acting role models) I did get to work with Anthony Hopkins on The Human Stain. If I ever manage to accomplish a quarter of what he's achieved, I'll have had one hell of a career.

Lindsay: (on filming Chapter 27, based around John Lennon's assassination) I sat down with Yoko Ono a few times to talk to her about it because it's a very touchy subject. Nobody wanted me to do the movie, and that actually worked for me! But I wanted to get the okay from Yoko before I did it just because John Lennon is a legend. And I also know Sean, her son. We've been friends for years and we write together.

Lindsay: (on her relationship with her mother) She’s my best friend and always will be. So are my brother and sisters, but there’s nothing like your mum. We’ve always been there for each other and I trust her with my life.

Lindsay: (asked if she thinks fame shelters her from real life) It depends on who you surround yourself with. If you surround yourself with people who treat you as they would if you didn’t have your pictures everywhere - and I do - then no. I have a great group of people, and I consider myself a pretty humble person. What is fame?

Lindsay: (on her relationship with Meryl Streep) It was more of a friend relationship than maternal. Meryl was getting ready to do The Devil Wears Prada and she was like, ‘I don’t know anything about fashion!’ So I gave her a few tips.

Lindsay: (why she chose to star in A Prairie Home Companion) When they asked me to be Meryl Streep’s daughter in a movie, why would I say no? Also, I got to sing live, which I love to do. It’s a movie I know I’ll be proud of when I look back on it.

Lindsay: Never say never. The things you don't plan are the best. I'm a very spontaneous person.

Lindsay: I want to be remembered for the work that I’ve done, rather than the car accidents that I’ve gotten into, the men that I’ve not dated - or the man that I have.

Lindsay: You shouldn't have to give things up for someone. If you love them someone, you should love them for everything they do and all that they are. I love acting and I wouldn't give it up for anything, and I don't know anyone in my life who would ask me to give it up.

Lindsay: (on shooting "Just My Luck") I felt uncomfortable running around New York City having to kiss strange men who are much older than me. There were little girls watching everywhere and paparazzi were waiting around every corner to snap my picture. I felt nervous and silly.

Lindsay: Everyone has highs and lows that they have to learn from, but every morning I start off with a good head on my shoulders, saying to myself, ‘It’s going to be a good day!’

Lindsay: I’m really excited because I’m planning a trip to Kenya with The One Foundation. Bono introduced me to it. I’m also trying to get other people on board. I only just told Kate Bosworth about it last night. I want to set up orphanages for underprivileged and abused children.


Lindsay: It‘s my body. And I like my body. And I like my breasts. And no, they‘re not fake. I think a woman‘s body is so much more sensual than a man‘s. I‘m not saying strip off all your clothes, but there are certain photos I like people taking of me, where I‘m comfortable. As long as it’s tasteful, why not?
