Married gays healthier?
Married gays healthier? Numerous studies have previously found that married men and women live longer and are healthier overall than their single counterparts.

A new study has found a similar phenomenon for gay men.

Men in same-sex marriages are healthier overall, visit the doctor less often and have lower health care costs than non-married gay or bisexual men.

The study, which appeared in the American Journal of Public Health, also found that gay men suffer from lower levels of stress when laws offer protection for and allow same-sex marriage.

The author of the study said the results indicate removing barriers to marriage can improve the health of gay and bisexual men.

During the twelve-month period after same-sex marriages were legalized in Massachusetts, doctors noticed more than a 13% drop in visits from gay or bisexual men.

The author suggests the findings show marriage equality may produce broad, public heath benefits.

The study was unable to include female lesbians in the sample as they simply did not have enough patients at the clinic where it was conducted.
