Kevin Costner on Whitney Houston, Some of the entertainment industry’s biggest names will be in attendance at the funeral for Whitney Houston on Saturday in Newark, N.J., according to media reports.
Kevin Costner, who starred alongside Houston in the 1992 film “The Bodyguard,” will speak at the funeral, along with record executive Clive Davis, People magazine reported. Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder are scheduled to perform at the private event.
Houston, a chart-topping singer of the 1980s and '90s, was found dead in her suite at the Beverly Hills Hilton on Saturday, the night before the Grammy Awards. She was 48.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of her death.
Marvin Winans, a gospel singer and longtime family friend, will deliver Houston’s eulogy, according to the Associated Press. The event will begin at 9 a.m. Pacific time Saturday and will be streamed live over the Internet.
Authorities collected several bottles of prescription drugs from Houston's suite at the Beverly Hilton. But officials have said the amount of drugs did not seem unusually large, leaving it unclear whether the medications had anything to do with the singer's death.
Officials are waiting for the results of toxicology tests on Houston's body.
The Los Angeles County coroner's office said Wednesday that investigators had asked "a number" of doctors to provide them with Houston's medical information.
