‘Star Trek’ Actor Avery Brooks Arrested, Avery Brooks, who played Captain Benjamin Sisko on the 1990s series "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," was recently arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The incident occurred in Wilton, Connecticut just after 10 p.m. on January 29. Police said they received a complaint about the 63-year-old actor's driving and pulled him over. Brooks was then taken into custody. His case was process and he was issued an order to appear in court for an arraignment on February 9 and then released,

Brooks has not commented. The actor, who does not have prior convictions, faces a maximum penalty of six months in jail, a 1-year-long suspension of his driver's license and a $1,000 fine.

Brooks, a native of Indiana, lives in New Jersey. His wife, Vicki, works in the state as an assistant dean at Rutgers University. She and Brooks have three children.

Brooks was the first black actor to play the main leading role in a "Star Trek" series. "Deep Space Nine," which was largely set on a space station, aired from 1993 to 1999.

Brooks is also known for his role as Dr. Bob Sweeney in the 1998 film "American History X." In the mid-1980s, he played Hawk on the ABC detective series "Spenser: For Hire" and reprised the part in a spin-off show, "A Man Called Hawk," which aired for one season, and in several made-for-television films in the 1990s.

His performance as Detective Leon Jackson in the 2001 film "15 Minutes," which stars Robert De Niro, marked Brooks' latest on-screen acting role. He also provided the voice of Sisko in the video game "Star Trek Legacy," which was released in 2006. Brooks has appeared at several "Star Trek" conventions over the years as well.

Brooks appeared in the 2011 documentary "The Captains," which stars and was directed by William Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk in the original "Star Trek" series and films.

The project also featured various "Star Trek" actors, including Patrick Stewart, who played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" television and movie adaptations, Kate Mulgrew, who portrayed Captain Kathryn Janeway in "Star Trek: Voyager" and was the first woman to helm a "Star Trek" series, Scott Bakula of "Star Trek: Enterprise," and Chris Pine, who played Kirk in the 2009 "Star Trek" film.
