Somewhere, in Vermont's St. Albans penitentiary, there's a prisoner feeling pretty damn good about himself. Not because of a well-formed shiv or a found cigarette, but because of a really sublime prank: he snuck a pig into the state seals that adorn Vermont's police cars.
As we all know, a pig is a slur for the police, hence the zinger. The prison, in addition to license plates and stationery, produces the adhesive seals used on the police cars. The Vermont state seal includes, predictably, a cow, and it is in the pattern of said cow's spots the unknown prison artist incorporated the well-rendered silhouette of a pig. Initial information suggest about 36 decals are already affixed to vehicles.
MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont prison inmate who makes stationery and license plates has gotten the best of the state police by adding the image of a pig to the state decal on their cruisers.

One of the spots on the cow in the state crest has been changed to the shape of a pig, a derogatory term for police. The 16-inch car door decals are made by prisoners in Windsor.

State police discovered the pig images Wednesday. They say they believe the decals have been added to about 30 cruisers in the past year.

Who made the modification and when is being reviewed by the Department of Corrections. Corrections Commissioner Andy Pallito said Thursday new decals will be made by Monday for about $800
Williston, Vermont - If you approached a Vermont State Police cruiser in Williston on Friday you probably wouldn't notice anything wrong. But, if you look close you will see a pig on the cow in the state crest emblem, an image aimed to mock police.

State police discovered the pig images Wednesday. It is a prank that the Vermont Department of Corrections says was made by a prisoner four years ago in a Central Vermont facility. They believe the decals have been added to about 30 cruisers.

"We've reminded our staff they've got to do a better job at doing their checks," said Department of Corrections Commissioner Andy Pallito.

Pallito says the jail in Windsor is where a prisoner made the change and it passed through several sets of eyes before being caught.

Fox44 also found out Friday this prank may go a little deeper than just the pig. Now, officials are also looking at the bales of hay, which may have been altered to represent a male sex organ.

"It isn't really harmless because it is a waste of money. We have to rerun these things and re-put them on state police cars. Meaning we have to take state police cars off the road now," said Pallito.

Pallito says inmates make a lot of things, including license plates and other government materials, with very few issues arising.

While he's upset about this happening, what's even more puzzling to Pallito is why so many people across the country are requesting to get this decal.

"Who wants to take this image, sell it is a fundraiser, forgetting the fact the heart of it is something that's pretty disrespectful to law enforcement," said Pallito.

DOC leaders are investigating the incident. They say whoever is responsible could face a misdemeanor charge.
