First female artist to be awarded the International Artist Award at the American Music Award_Beyoncé became the first female artist ever to win the International Artist Award at the 2007 American Music Awards, which was held on Sunday in Los Angeles. Beyoncé was presented with the award by R&B singer, dancer, and actor Usher.
This unique honor has been given only to a select few artists, including Michael Jackson, Led Zeppelin, Rod Smith, and Rod Stewart.
Speaking of her International Award, Beyoncé said:
"I am so blessed to wake up every morning and do what I love to do," she told the audience. "I don't take it for granted. I'm so grateful, I'm so honored and I'm so humbled by this award."
She was also nominated for three other awards, but was unable to secure a win other than the International Artist Award.
At the awards ceremony, Beyoncé also performed on stage with country band Sugarland. With them, they performed the song "Irreplaceable" in a country/bluegrass arrangement, which was the idea of the band's publicist.
Beyoncé spoke about the collaboration: "A good thing about a good song is it can be played in any genre. I'm up for anything. I love it."
