+giuliana rancic stage three breast cancer,Reality stars Giuliana and Bill Rancic have had their share of upheavals, melodrama and heartbreak in the last six months. In October, Giuliana announced during an appearance on another Today Show interview that she had early-stage breast cancer and would undergo a lumpectomy and radiation treatment for the disease.

The operation revealed that the cancer may be more extensive than doctors previously thought, and Giuliana opted for a double mastectomy in early December.

The couple had been trying to conceive a child for two years and Giuliana underwent two rounds of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) in 2010. The first attempt resulted in pregnancy, but Giuliana miscarried at nine weeks.

As she was preparing for another round of IVF, doctors discovered that she had breast cancer, and the couple’s baby dreams had to be put on hold as Giuliana underwent treatment. Even as late as the eve of the mastectomy operation, Giuliana entertained the possibility of conceiving children relatively quickly thereafter. Part of the reason that she opted for a mastectomy instead of another lumpectomy was that she did not want to undergo months of anti-estrogen and radiation therapy, which would have precluded pregnancy.

Another was the peace of mind that the cancer was entirely removed. "In the end, all it came down to was just choosing to live and not looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life. For me, it was very important to just get the cancer out. That's what I wanted to do. Just get it out. With the double mastectomy I have less than 1 percent chance of getting it [the cancer] back. With the lumpectomy, radiation and medication, I could have seen 20 to 30 to 40 percent chance in my lifetime, and for me it just wasn't worth it," she told Ann Curry on the Today Show.

Three months post-surgery, the couple is adjusting to their new normal. Viewers will be able to see that new normal on the couple’s season five reality TV show "Giuliana & Bill” soon. In the meantime, the Rancics chatted on the Today Show and revealed their perspectives may be shifting in regards to the future baby.

"We are definitely having to explore other options," Giuliana explained. "We absolutely want a child. As far as getting pregnant myself, with the medication I'm starting ... it's probably not going to happen any time soon. But we're definitely looking at other options.... Possibly adoption, surrogacy -- listen, at the end of the day, whether you have a baby naturally, adoption, surrogacy -- it's your baby. You're going to love that baby and that's all that matters."

Giuliana hopes she will have some good news to announce on that front soon.
