National Waiters and Waitresses Day,Monday, May 21, is National Waiters and Waitresses Day.

This day recognizes the waiting staff. Go out and give your server a generous tip for all their hard work and patience, a lot of patience.

Frankly, if you don’t have the money, don’t treat yourself to a served meal. A waiter is not part of a packed deal that comes with your food, tipping is a must. Most people are oblivious to the fact that the waiting staff is paid $2.15 an hour. After taxes, most don’t even receive a check. Their entire salary depends on tips. So if you don’t feel like tipping or don’t have enough, do them a favor and visit a fast-food place or get take-out.

Waiters and waitresses: 15-20%

At a buffet: 10% if someone provided drink refills, napkins, etc.

Takeout: $0-$2 don’t feel obligated to tip. Usually, the person in charge of to-go orders is being paid minimum wage or more and is simply doing their job. However, restaurants don’t always assign a person in that section and servers have to take turns taking orders. If this is the case, give them a small tip for the time they took away from their tables to put your order together.
Drive-thru: $0 and check your bag, you’re probably missing ketchup, sauce, or your order is wrong.

Cocktail server/bartender: $1 per drink or 15-20% on total tab.

Servers put up with more than you think. Check out some of their crazy stories and rants at any of the following websites:
