Police Overdue Library Books 4 Year Old, Police called overdue books---Recently, the Freeport Area Library has called police to get back their four overdue books which were bought by a four-year-old Katelyn Jageman, who at a rate of ten cents a day over a 204-day period, owed the library $81.60. Katelyn’s books were due back to the Freeport Area Library on Oct. 19, 2011. Until Thursday, they were still in her possession.

The library made so many calls to Katelyn’s home but after several attempts to retrieve the books, the case was turned over to police, who made a courtesy call to the child’s home.

Police were sent to investigate the case. And police got the books back and gave them in the custody of library. Katelyn was left in tears after police visited her home to collect her overdue library books.

Apparently returning your library books late will get you more than just a notice in the mail. It’s a crime in some communities.

The library receives no federal funding and relies on memberships, donations, and a secondhand shop to survive.

President of the Freeport Area Library Board, Donna Michael said that it’s a rare incident, but it does occur, after phone calls and letters to the family, Michael admitted she alerted authorities and put the problem in their hands. I did turn the file over to the police department.
