QVC Host Collapses Live TV, A Sunday night segment with QVC host Dan Hughes gave viewers a scare when guest host Cassie Slane began patting her chest and then appeared to faint from a medical emergency.
Even in the world of home shopping television, the show must go on.
A Sunday night segment with QVC host Dan Hughes gave viewers a scare when guest host Cassie Slane began patting her chest and then appeared to faint from a medical emergency, video uploaded to YouTube shows.
But even as the cameras cut away from the scene, Hughes continued talking about the product — barely skipping a beat.
Another host said on Facebook Slane was experiencing the effects of low blood sugar, according to news.ninemsn.com.au.
Slane wrote on her Facebook page Monday that she was “feeling alot better today,” but didn’t elaborate on what happened.A QVC spokesman said she suffered a "brief fainting spell," and has since recovered.
During the segment, Hughes and Slane were chatting about the FunTab Pro, anAndroid tablet for kids.
“Kids love tablets. They love playing with tablets, they love the games,” Slane said.
As she continued talking, she stumbled over her words and then patted her chest several times. Finally, she leaned forward, prompting Hughes to grab her.“You okay?” Hughes asked as the screen cut to a picture of the product.
Without explaining what had just occurred, he launched into a description about the FunTab.
The ill-timed incident left viewers scratching their heads.
“Can you let us know how the presenter for the [FunTab] Pro Tablet is doing? The poor thing. very frightening to see,” a Facebook user wrote to QVC host Carolyn Gracie, who had joined the rest of the segment with Hughes.
Gracie replied that Slane was recovering after the scare.
“Cassie is fine now, thank goodness!” she wrote. “She had a couple of fainting spells due to low blood sugar. Poor thing. She is such a nice girl. ”
But others on social media found the whole episode bizarre.
“QVC professionalism rule #1,582: should your co-host grab her chest and fall, [keep] selling a cheap Android tablet,” tweeted Jared Eberle.
It was actually the second time Slane collapsed on QVC. In August 2010, she slumped over an e-reader she was presenting, video obtained by LiveLeak shows.
