PETA takes aim at Nintendo's Mario
PETA takes aim at Nintendo's Mario_ It’s amazing to me what lengths some people will go to in order to get their message out there. Soem times a group can be totally in the right about something, even violence in video games and how it could possibly effect children… but this? This is a gigantic reach that I don’t think ANYONE saw coming.
PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is calling out Nintendo for Mario’s latest power up, the Tanooki Suit in Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS. While Mario doesn’t go around skinning Tanooki which are a real animal, a racoon dog, they claim it sends the wrong message to children about it being ok to wear fur.

I want to like PETA. I want to agree with a lot of their ideas behind how animals are treated around the world, but I also think they’re bat shit crazy. When you see a cartoon character get a leaf, that *POOF* transforms him into a half man/half tanooki hybrid and think “CHILDREN WILL THINK IT’S OK TO WEAR FURS!!! THIS MUST BE STOPPED!” it’s officially time to take your medication.

PETA has gone as far as to make a shitty Flash based game called Super Tanooki Skin 2D. You can play it on their website HERE. In the game you chase after mario as a skinned Tanooki. The game features a twisted take on the normal mario landscape with blood everywhere… clearly meant for children like Super Mario 3D Land is right?

Find me a kid who thinks that grabbing a magical leaf that comes out of a magical box will turn him into a tanooki THAT FLIES and then attaches that idea to it being ok to wear fur and I’ll be amazed. Until then SHUT UP PETA!. What do you think about PETAs reaction to this Rated E video game?
