Woman dies of old gunshot wound, A Bartow woman has died from a gunshot wound she received while trying to break up a fight.


Police say 21-year-old Vershontis Bradley was attempting to stop a fight Friday evening between her brother and and Larry D. Weston at the Azalea Gardens apartment complex on Golfview Avenue. Weston pulled out a gun and shot Bradley in the chest, according to investigators.

Weston then fled on foot.

"I thought it couldn't be true, because she is a good girl," Jose Ayala told ABC Action News on Saturday.

Bradley taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where she died at 7:30 this morning.

According to police, Weston, 21, was released from prison in May. Charges against him in the shooting have been upgraded to murder and he remains at large
