Man, dog rescued from cliff
Man, dog rescued from cliff, Firefighters rescued a man and his dog who were left stranded on a cliff face for over 90 minutes after plunging 150ft.
Ivan Salas, 19, was walking along a steep ridge in the Lake View Terrace area of Los Angeles with his father and one-year-old German Shepherd cross Lola. But when his father threw a bottle and Lola dashed to fetch it, she slipped over the edge and fell.
Ivan immediately went to rescue her but he too slid down the cliff and ended up trapped on a ledge next to his beloved pet.
Rescuers initially tried to winch them to safety from a helicopter but the blast from the rotor blades threatened to blow them off the cliff face.
Ivan told ABC news: '(The rocks) were hitting me in the face and my dog too, and then my dog started panicking, she was going crazy. I just grabbed her tight.'
In the end Ivan and Lola were perched precariously on the ledge for over 90 minutes before firefighters were able to abseil down and lower them to safety.
Ivan added: 'It was extremely scary, dangerous. I don't know what I was thinking when I went down.
'It's not just a dog, it's family and my best friend at the same time, so I had to do it.'
Around 35 firefighters were involved in the rescue and Ivan has promised to repay them by buying them all dinner.
