Oakland Overcomes Kansas City in Overtime
Oakland Overcomes Kansas City in Overtime, The Oakland Raiders needed a win in Week 16 over the hometown Kansas City Chiefs in order to keep their playoff hopes alive for at least one more week. It looked like they were well on their way to a win when they saw their lead slip away in the fourth quarter once again. Luckily, they were able to block a field goal in order to send the game to overtime.
The star of the game for the Raiders was kicker Sebastian Janikowski, who once again came through in the clutch. He was 3-for-4 on field goal attempts and scored nine of Oakland's 16 points. The only field goal he missed was a 58-yard attempt in the second quarter following a botched fake field goal play that resulted in a delay-of-game penalty. That kick fell just short.
The only touchdown of the game for the Raiders came in the third quarter on a 61 yard touchdown pass from Carson Palmer to Denarius Moore.
The Chiefs tied up the game in the fourth quarter on a pass from Kyle Orton to Dwayne Bowe that tied the score 13-13 with 1:04 left. The Raiders were able to block a short field goal attempt thanks to amazing play from the defensive line to send the game to overtime.
The Raiders won the coin toss and elected to receive. They moved 58 yards downfield on four plays and Janikowski knocked in the 36-yard field goal for the much-needed Raiders win by a final score of 16-13.
