Human head Hollywood sign
Human head Hollywood sign _ Investigators searching a hiking area near the Hollywood Sign discovered a pair of hands and two feet not far from where a severed human head was found Tuesday.
Investigators have been combing Bronson Canyon Park inch-by-inch since the initial discovery by a dog walker near the 3200 block of Canyon Drive.
The woman told reporters that two of the dogs started playing with an object they found in a plastic bag.
The dog walker took a closer look and realized the object was a human head.
Today, investigators using cadaver dogs recovered 2 hands and feet.
Police officials say the head belonged to a man, and it did not appear to be left in the canyon for long based on its condition.
The victim has been described as a man in his 40s.
Initial reports indicated he may have been of Armenian descent, but police now say his ethnicity remains undetermined.
Authorities planned to identify the man through dental records.
Investigators said there was no indication of a crime scene near where the head was found.
"There's no other evidence we've found right now that would indicate a sign of a struggle or any kind of a murder scene back here, so we believe at this point the head was dumped by somebody there, and very recently," said LAPD Cmdr. Andy Smith.
"There's no reason to believe that this is part of any kind of a series," Smith stressed.
"There's no other evidence to indicate that this is anything besides just a single, individual isolated occurrence."
