School slave game
School slave game _Georgia Teacher Allegedly Encouraged Students To Play Slave Game During Recess,Apparently, the drinking water in Georgia contains a chemical that causes stupidity. Either that or many Georgians just long for the return of slavery. Not too long ago, a third grade teacher handed out homework containing slavery-themed math questions and has since apologized and resigned. But it looks like another teacher in a Georgia school is crazy about slavery.

At Camp Creek Elementary School in Lilburn, students played a kind of tag in which one student was the slave while the others were slave catchers and the teacher allegedly set up, encouraged, and participated in the activity during recess. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “three children and their parents told Channel 2 Action News that a teacher organized and participated in the game.”
One parent told Channel 2 “that her 8-year-old daughter said she was a slave and other students were slave catchers during a game similar to tag.” The eight year old girl said that her teacher participated and “would sit on the bench and the slave catchers would come up to the door and ask did she have any slaves.”

The school district made a statement denying the allegations. “The school district looked into concerns regarding four students who participated in a playground activity. The district determined that the activity was student initiated and that allegations regarding the teacher’s involvement were unfounded.”

Whether the game was initiated by the children (i.e., their parents) or the teacher, it points to a long-running problem throughout Georgia and the South and it tells us why the racist “southern strategy” is still effective for Republican candidates. Slavery is long-gone. The students of Camp Creek Elementary School are at least six generations past those horrific days, yet many in the deep south still yearn for the times of their Great Grandparents, a time when the social order was clear and respect didn’t need to be earned.

This isn’t the first time that in recent weeks that Georgia has pledged allegiance to the Confederate Flag. Another teacher was forced to resign over slavery-themed math test questions and a Georgia judge jumped on the birther bandwagon by ordering President Obama to appear in court to prove his citizenship.
Look for these incidents to become more common as the election year wears on. For the party that offers no solutions, racial divisiveness is the Republican’s only weapon. For centuries now, the south has been a burning cauldron of ethnic tension. That’s not to say that all southerners are racist, but many still are. In more recent, more “enlightened” years, racism was often expressed in whispers, behind closed doors. This year, the race baiting Republicans are bursting those doors wide open.
