Boulders fall from Hawaii mountain hit houses, Authorities say boulders falling from a Hawaii mountainside have struck and least three homes and prompted an evacuation of the Kalihi neighborhood.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser ( http://bit.ly/HzjEqP) reports there were no injuries but four people in one of the houses narrowly escaped.

Emergency crews were called about 9 p.m. Thursday to the area of Kula Kolea Drive and Kula Kolea Place and began evacuating residents.

Police Sgt. R. Oakes says at least two large boulders came down the mountain and damaged the three homes.

Police evacuated people from several houses in an area where officials were concerned more boulders might come down.

The American Red Cross says it is opening a shelter for evacuees.

Oakes says a boulder about six feet in diameter struck the side of one home, while a second went through the roof of a carport.
