Hunter Parrish + playing Jesus in Broadway's Godspell, "Godspell," the musical retelling of the book of Matthew, is being brought back to Broadway, with "Weeds" star Hunter Parrish filling the lead role of Jesus.

Parrish's casting was announced by the producer of the show, Ken Davenport. In 2008 Parrish made his Broadway debut in Spring Awakening as Melchior, a role originated by Glee star Jonathan Groff. Playbill.com reported that the show will open for previews on October 13, at Circle in the Square Theater with an opening night slated for November 7th.

Parrish said that he is "honored to be a part of bringing this thrilling classic back to Broadway. I knew after meeting with the creative team that I was going to be a part of something really exciting."

Parrish also showed his excitement by tweeting, "Boo-yah! Who's coming??" with a link to the Playbill.com article.

The original show opened in 1971 and became a hit. The upcoming revival features music and new lyrics from original composer Steven Schwartz, choreography by Christopher Gattelli, direction by Daniel Goldstein and a book by John-Michael Tebelak. The show is being completely re-imaged for the Circle in the Square Theater, which is the only theater on Broadway that features in-the-round seating.

Stephen Schwatz has a history of notable compositions, having contributed musicals such as "Godspell," "Wicked," and "Pippin," to the musical cannon, as well as writing songs for the movies "Enchanted," "Pocahontas" and "The Prince of Egypt."

The rest of the cast will be announced shortly. If you want to go see the show, you can buy tickets here.
