Savannah Brinson + Lebron James + high school sweethearts_Well, at least someone in the James family finally has a ring now. LeBron James of the Miami Heat started the New Year off big proposing to his longtime girlfriend Savannah Brinson just minutes after midnight–giving a whole new meaning to “ringing in the New Year”. The couple was at a nightclub in Miami with some of LeBron’s fellow Heat teammates.
Apparently, the holidays are a popular time for NBA stars to propose, because Michael Jordan also got engaged to his girlfriend just days ago over Christmas. In addition to the engagement and New Years Eve festivities, Lebron was also celebrating his 27th birthday, which was on Friday. LeBron and Savannah were high school sweethearts and have two sons together. “My girl, she’s very excited,” James told the Associated Press. “She would love to answer more questions about it than me. But she’s happy, my family’s happy and that’s what it’s about.” LeBron was very secretive about his plans, leaving Savannah completely surprised when he dropped to his knee.

It was an intimate setting; only a few of his closest friends and teammates were watching. In fact, teammate Dwyane Wade provided the assist and was charged with holding on to the ring until it was time.

“It’s very nice,” Wade said to the AP.
“Very nice. They have good taste. … To me, it felt like he was on his knee for an hour. It was probably like 35 seconds. It was great. I feel so happy for them and their entire family.” The word began spreading quickly as other teammates and friends began tweeting their congratulations to James, some even before the New Years celebrations were finished. While LeBron and Savannah had reportedly discussed marriage over the course of their relationship, she was not expecting a proposal, and LeBron was successfully able to pull of the great surprise. “It was great that all the friends and family were there to bring in a new year. Even my kids were happy about it, so that’s good. … I feel good. I feel good. It’s a good point in my life right now,” LeBron said. James and Brinson have yet to announce a wedding date.
