Keith Urban cocaine alcohol addiction

Keith Urban cocaine alcohol addiction_In an appearance on Oprah Winfrey's talk show Monday, country superstar Keith Urban talked candidly about his past addictions to alcohol and cocaine, and the 2006 trip to rehab that he feared might destroy his marriage to Nicole Kidman.

The famous couple had only been married four months when Kidman staged an intervention, and the singer feared the stress of rehab could spell the end of the marriage.
"Surely let's give it a few years so we've got some solidity, because this kind of thing could tear us apart," Urban told Oprah. "This could just destroy us."

But his new wife convinced him to go. "She made the decision to turn around and initiate this intervention," Urban said. "The love in that room was just right, and I said, 'Let's put the cuffs on and go.' It was Nicole and a small group of people I'm close to in Nashville. You can't do this for somebody. I couldn't do this just for her. To see love in action to that degree in that way, I had never experienced love in that way.

"I had to make a decision which road I was going to take, once and for all. I'd been at that crossroads before and always taken the wrong road,” the musician said. He decided to cancel an upcoming concert and leave that very night. “I didn’t care about anything else.”

It was Keith's third trip to rehab in eight years. "I did everything differently this time," he said. "I just went off the rails. I knew I needed help and I needed a new direction in my life, and I cannot do this anymore."

Keith Urban released his newest album Get Closer two weeks ago.
