Jemima Kirke Simon Kirke daughter,Jemima Kirke (born April 26, 1985) is a British painter and actress best known for her role as Jessa Johansson on the HBO television series Girls.[1] She made her feature-length debut in the independent film Tiny Furniture,[2] although her film debut was in the indie short film Smile For The Camera. Kirke is the daughter of Simon Kirke, best known as the drummer of British rock bands Free and Bad Company.

Kirke is the daughter of Simon Kirke, the former drummer of the rock band Free best known for the song All Right Now.[3] Jemima's mother is Lorraine (Dellal) Kirke, the owner of Geminola, a vintage boutique that supplied a number of outfits for the HBO series Sex and the City.[4] Her maternal grandfather, Jack Dellal, is a British businessman of Iraqi Jewish descent, and her maternal grandmother was Israeli.[5][6][7] Jemima has two sisters, Lola [8] and Domino Kirke, who are both involved in the music business. Domino, besides being a musician, is also a Doula.[9]
In an interview with Esquire, Kirke discussed how the characters she portrays in both Tiny Furniture and Girls are inspired somewhat by her bohemian personality.[10] Kirke resides in Brooklyn with her husband and child.[11] Kirke is close friends with Lena Dunham, who created Tiny Furniture and Girls.[1] They became friends while attending Saint Ann's School in New York City.[1] And Dunham let Kirke tattoo a Yorkshire terrier on her ribcage.
Kirke majored in art as a student and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, which is consistently ranked as one of the top art schools in the U.S. In late 2011, she held a month-long exhibition titled "A Brief History" through Skylight Projects.[12] Kirke has made a number of her sold paintings viewable on her website.[13]
