The couple got engaged just before the night turned to day of January 1, 2009, as said by an insider. It was reported that 28-year-old Chmerkovskiy popped the question to Smirnoff at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas, with a Harry Winston ring. A source said, “They are really cute together.”

This pair of professional dancers started their relationship last summer, a little more than six months after 30-year-old Smirnoff announced her break-up with former Dancing partner Mario Lopez, after a two-year relationship.

They are currently performing on the Dancing with the Stars winter tour, which wraps up in mid-February. No word on a wedding date yet, as both reps for the couple declined to comment. But both are expected back when season eight of DWTS, that will begin March 9.

Now that’s what I call heading a new start in the new year! Congrats both!
