Author buys River Tay mansion

Author buys River Tay mansion - Author's magical Tudor, Killiechassie House is a 19th century Estate house, situated on the banks of the River Tay, near Aberfeldy, in Perth and Kinross. The current owner of the house is J. K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, who purchased it in November 2001 for the sum of approximately £600,000. Since then the value of the house has increased significantly, with the estimated value rising to £1.5 million. This famous author's rags-to-riches story landed her in a magical 19th-century riverbank mansion. Last year, she purchased the house next door for about $1.5 million and plans to knock it down to create a Renaissance-style garden.

When Rowling hit it big she decided that a she wanted a magical home and one look at her mansion / castle on the banks of the River Tay in Scotland shows that she realised that fully.

J.K. Rowling + paid $2 million for Killiechassie House

The property cost $2million, a tiny sum compared to many celebs who have her riches although contractors were put on gagging orders to not release details of what was done inside. The property is from the late 1800s and has some interesting history including a sycamore tree that sheltered Bonnie Prince Charlie in the Jacobean uprising in 1775!

J.K. Rowling + Killiechassie House has 20 chimneys, medieval burial ground
The home has large inner and outer halls, a drawing, morning and dining room, a library (of course), large kitchens and everything else you would imagine. The room is home to 20 chimneys and as well as the sycAlthamore tree the grounds are also home to a medieval burial ground. It really is about as close to Hogwarts as you can get!

Alhtough I think the size of this home is a little excessive I can really see the appeal and at $2M it isn’t

much more than many inner city medium sized homes! Last year she also picked up the home next door for $1.5M. This is going to be knocked down and turned into a Renaissance Garden!
