Sexiest film stars-Benedict Cumberbatch and Emma Watson voted sexiest film stars--Empire magazine has released the list of sexiest movie stars in the world. Can you guess who’s on it? A few surprising stars claim the top spots.

You know how sometimes you lay awake through the night wondering about the hierarchy of sexiness in the movie industry? Luckily for you, so is Empire magazine.

According to the results of this British magazine’s reader poll published on Tuesday, Benedict Cumberbatch picked up the title of sexiest male movie star, while Emma Watson was awarded the sexiest female movie star title.

Admittedly, whilst ogling the photo of these two, it’s tough to disagree. Look at Benedict’s perfect hair, sultry fox-man eyes and cheekbones that can cut glass. Then, there’s Emma, with her coy sweetness, raw magnetism and stunning English beauty. As Yoda would say: Chosen well did readers of Empire.

As to why Benedict deserved the top spot, this is what the magazine had to say: “While not as hyper-muscly or comically chiselled as others on this list, Cumberbatch specialises in characters that are far too clever, and far too cool, to take the rest of humanity seriously — and then he somehow makes us love him for it. It helps that, off-screen, he's still clever and insanely charismatic but quite a bit nicer than the characters he habitually plays.”
Watson’s description read, “Combining smarts with beauty, Emma Watson's been a favourite for years, even back in the days when people really shouldn't have been thinking that way about young Hermione. But since leaving Hogwarts she's blossomed into a fine young actress, playing roles from teen thief to music nerd, and even having fun as herself in This Is The End.”

All very true, all very true. On the male side of things, Tom Hiddleston took the second spot, the unbearably beautiful Henry Cavill placed third, Ryan Gosling claimed the fourth spot (we were shocked too!) and Robert Downey Jr. came in at number five.

On the ladies side, the always-gorgeous Scarlett Johansson placed second, Jennifer Lawrence came in third, Twilight star Kristen Stewart placed fourth and Anne Hathaway rounded off the top five.

"It's a great result for British stars, but what's clear is that it's less important to have lots of casual fans and better to have a dedicated hard-core," said editor of Empireonline.com James Dyer. "The Cumberbabes, Hiddlestoners, Twi-hards and Cavilliers all made their opinions heard! This list also reflects the continuing popularity of superhero movies: six of the top ten men have played superheroes and five of the top ten women have appeared in comic-book movies."
