Cameron Diaz Rihanna--In “The Counselor,” Ridley Scott’s star-studded action movie now in theaters, Cameron Diaz is ditching her good-girl image to play a femme fatale from outside the US. Initially, she was directed as being from Argentina, but she was embarrassed to be told her accent was “too Rihanna.”
Rihanna is from Barbados, but that’s a different kettle of fish. According to THR, Cameron’s Argentinian accent came out like the pop star’s heavy Barbadian one, and it was so bad that she was asked to dub her lines in post-production.

You can see a featurette with Diaz and Javier Bardem in the video above. If you look closely, you notice that her lines are dubbed in the studio.

“Diaz, whose character has a relatively subtle Barbados lilt in the film, originally voiced it with a full-on Rihanna-style accent – but Fox execs blanched, forcing her to dub her work later, much to her chagrin. Not that it helped the film's prospects,” THR writes.

Despite the stellar cast, including Diaz, Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt, the film got a mere 37% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and barely registered at the US box office. Some voices are already calling it a flop – a star-studded, impressive one, but a flop nonetheless.
