Vancouver cops injured Fatburger--Four Vancouver police officers on a meal break were injured Sunday when a car crashed through the front of the Fatburger restaurant where they were eating.

The incident occurred at about 8 p.m on Denman Street in Vancouver's West End, punching in the front of the popular eatery.

The injured members of the force were uniform patrol officers whose beat covers Vancouver's downtown core.

Constable Brian Montague described the injuries as serious but not life threatening - a mix of broken ankles, legs and issues breathing among the officers who were hit by the car, broken glass and the wall of the restaurant.

"It appears they will all be all right," he said in an interview across the street from the restaurant.

The BMW was driven by a 30-year-old woman, said Const. Montague.

"She just, for no apparent reason, made an abrupt turn into the front of the restaurant. We don't really know the cause of the collision," he said.

He said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The "quite shaken up" driver was taken to hospital as a precaution and questioning by police, said Const. Montague.

"We have a lot of unanswered questions."

The spokesman said there were no injuries among staff or customers in the Fatburger.

He said the incident was inexplicable for the officers.

"When you're trying to have a break and eat dinner, you don't expect to have a car come crashing through a restaurant and run you over," he said.

"Extremely unexpected is the best way to put it."
