The ‘Christmas Day’ singer’s baby name pick seems to be an ode to her 2000 hit with Eminem. The song, titled ‘Stan,’ won the pair the top spot in the charts and launched Dido into the spotlight. Though catchy, the tune tells the very dark tale of a fan who is so obsessed with his favorite singer that he ends up killing his girlfriend and their unborn child and eventually himself when his letters to the rapper go unanswered.
Dido – whose full name is actually Dido Florian Cloud de Bounevialle O’Malley Armstrong – was careful not to saddle her own babe with a long, complicated name. She once said that she resented being stuck with so many monikers: “To be called one thing and christened another is actually very confusing and annoying. It’s one of the most irritating things that my parents did to me. … Florian is a German man’s name. That’s just mean. To give your child a whole lot of odd names. They were all so embarrassing. … I thought it was cruel to call me Dido and then expect me to just deal with it.”
Tomorrow is sure to be a particularly special day for the happy new mom: Not only is it her son’s first Christmas, but it’s her 40th birthday as well!
