The actress, 43, and TV producer Daniel Zelman, 44, have a 7-year-old son, Roman.
'Debra Messing and Daniel Zelman privately separated earlier this year after a 10 year marriage,' a spokesperson for Messing told America's Us Weekly today.
'The decision was mutual, and they remain supportive of one another and committed to raising their son as a family.'
The pair married in 2000 after meeting as students at New York University.
The pair recently relocated to New York with their son and are said to be still living together.
"They have been separated the better part of the year but continue to live together in New York for Roman,' a source tells the magazine. 'It's very amicable.'
The former couple even attended Bette Midler's Halloween gala together in October however it is unclear if they will spend the holidays together as a family.
Messing will next star in the NBC series Smash, which will debut in February.
