These days, Hawn is known more for her philanthropic causes and campaign to teach mindfulness to children. In fact, she was in London to celebrate the British launch of her children’s charity, the Hawn Foundation, with daughter Kate Hudson and Hudson’s fiancé Matt Bellamy, 33. Wearing a blue strapless gown, Hawn flashed her famous smile, appearing far younger than her 66 years.
But, when she emerged from the club nine hours later, Hawn looked worse for wear, her bangs hiding bleary blue eyes and with a goofy smile plastered on her face. She had to be helped into a car, but still managed to miss the seat and fall backwards, revealing still shapely legs.
Earlier, a more pulled together Hawn made appearances for her latest book, “10 Mindful Minutes,” a guide for parents and teachers on teaching children yoga and meditation.
The book arrives in bookstores about the same time as a tell-all book by Hawn’s ex-husband, Bill Hudson, the father of Kate and Oliver Hudson. Hudson’s book, “2 Versions: The Other Side of Fame and Family,” presents a darker portrait of the woman he calls “America’s Sweetheart.”
“She is hard, she is cold, she is a control-freak,” he told Daily Mail writer Christopher Wilson, author of “Absolutely…Goldie.” “She has this new book about how to keep children happy, but look what she did with her own kids.”
Hawn’s rep did not respond immediately to ABCNews.com’s request for comment, but she recently said about the book and her second husband, “I just feel a little sad.”
Hudson, who was married to Hawn from 1976 to 1980, claims that after they split up, Hawn thwarted him from seeing their children and painted him in the press as a father who walked out on his kids.
He says the real story is Hawn wanted to have an open marriage and ran off with French actor Yves Renier, when Oliver was three and Kate, just four months. Hudson filed for divorce but took care of the kids while Hawn was away with Renier for nearly a year.
After Hawn got together with longtime partner Kurt Russell — they have a son, Wyatt — Hudson said his access to the children became even more limited and ultimately Hudson gave up on trying to see them.
“I bitterly regret that. I should have fought all the way,” he told Wilson. “It was a formative time for Kate, given that she was just 12. Maybe my children feel I didn’t fight for them.”
