Bobby Singh + Good Samaritan + Waltham

Bobby Singh + Good Samaritan + Waltham_Bobby Singh didn’t hesitate when he looked across the street from his convenience store and saw smoke billowing into the air from the home of Wayne Brasco, behind the Brasco And Sons Funeral Home.
He took off running, desperately looking for someone to tell at the funeral home, but when he found no answer, Singh ran headlong into the burning building to tell anyone inside to get out immediately.
“I took action right away to…save somebody,” said Singh.
He opened the unlocked front door, and with the blaze mounting only a few feet away from him, he began yelling that the house was on fire.
A surveillance camera captured Singh’s daring attempt to save Wayne Brasco and his brother Kenneth Brasco inside the home at 91 Orange St. on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Kenneth Brasco ran out through the front door, as flames were shooting out windows and spreading quickly throughout the home. Built with an outdated balloon framing construction design, the house had no firewalls and the blaze rapidly shot up all the way to the attic.

Wayne Brasco, who is the owner of the funeral home and serves as the chairman of the Waltham Licensing Commission, recently returned from a trip to Aruba during which he was injured badly enough to require a wheelchair. He sprained his ankle on the trip and also tore ligaments in his legs. On the day of the fire, he was in the back of the house on the first floor resting on a recliner with ice bags on his legs.
Somehow, the hobbled Brasco had enough time to call 9-1-1 from his landline after hearing Singh’s screams and waddled out the back door of the house moments after he observed fire bursting through windows and flames rippling across the ceiling of the first floor of the 1890s-era house.
Firefighters battled the three-alarm blaze and by the time they put out the flames just before 4 p.m., the home was deemed a “total loss.”
Brasco purchased the home in the late 1970s and raised five children there along with his wife Mary Brasco.
One of their sons, Paul Brasco, serves as a Waltham City Councilor.
He quickly made his way to the scene of the fire on Saturday.
“A lot of memories just went up in that fire,” said Paul Brasco.
Singh said he knew both of the Brascos in the house, and also knows Paul Brasco.
