Summer Reality TV Offerings, 2012 Summer TV Guide. Though there are plenty of great scripted shows on the tube during the summer months, summer remains the season when networks trot out their lighter fare, since viewers tend to spend more time outside, away from the television. That generally means lots of reality shows, from docudramas to dating shows to dance competitions. So once you're through soaking up all that sun at the shore, why not slather on a little more lotion and soak up some of those cathode rays in your living room. Here's a look at some of summer's notable reality shows, both new and returning.

Jenelle, who recently reconciled with Gary, after a brief fling with ex-boyfriend, Kieffer Delp, says she knows that Head is the one.

The “Teen Mom” told fans on Twitter that she had a “ring on her finger” and immediately sparked questions about an engagement. When fans asked if the rumors were true, she said “yes.”

Jenelle Evans told the “Teen Mom” Examiner exclusively that Gary Head proposed to her over the Mother’s Day weekend, which they spent mostly at a resort in Myrtle Beach.

Tim Tebow dancing with the stars, ABC's ballroom bash "Dancing With the Stars" has had quite a few athletes on its dance floor: Ochocinco, Metta World Peace (aka Ron Artest), Emmitt Smith, Hope Solo, Hines Ward, Misty May-Treanor ... the list is seemingly endless!
But now it sounds like another big-named sports star is considering adding his name to the show's marquee. According to season 13 champ, actor and Iraq war vet J.R. Martinez, Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow may be interested in slipping on"Dancing's" sparkly costumes and showing off his moves away from the football field.
Martinez, who was in Indianapolis for the Super Bowl this past weekend, told Celebuzz.com that he ran into the football star and the two men talked "Dancing." The mirror-ball champ said he told Tebow "he'd do pretty well on the show."

Barack Obama's rendition of Al Green's classic "Let's Stay Together" at an event in Harlem earned him a ticket to Hollywood (if he wants it), as "American Idol" producer Nigel Lythgoe took to Twitter early Tuesday to invite the president to sing on the reality show.

"@BarackObama we loved your vocal performance so much we'd love to invite you on to #AmericanIdol this Season for a duet with Al Green," Lythgoe wrote.

It's a shrewd business move; "Idol" ratings are down significantly this year, and rival singing competition "The X-Factor" stole all the headlines on Monday night by parting ways with host Steve Jones and judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

Obama's vocal work has already helped spur record sales, as in the few days after his singing lit up YouTube, digital download sales of Green's song were up 490%.

Lythgoe also passed judgment on the vocal stylings of Obama's leading presidential rival. Mitt Romney sang "America the Beautiful" at a Florida rally on Monday night, earning negative reviews after the video hit the airwaves and web. Lythgoe was among the tough critics.

"If it were an election based on vocal talent @barackobama would beat Romney hands down. Mitt was very flat singing 'America the Beautiful,'" he tweeted.

Earlier this week, Mark Quartiano, an infamous Miami Beach fisherman, posted photos of Rosie O'Donnell and her kids next to dead hammerhead sharks on his web site, declaring "This Month's Celebrity Angler."

Since then, the media maven with a home on Star Island has been targeted by environmentalists and animal rights activists for her shark kills.

The outspoken O'Donnell isn't taking the criticism lying down; she's taken it to Twitter:

New TV shows of 2011, It's almost 2012, and I for one am really looking forward to some wild off-road RV-driving with John Cusack as we try to outrun the apocalypse. You're probably asking yourself, "What's the point of making New Year's resolutions if the world is just going to end?" That's a great question. I like where your head is at. But if you listen closely to the trailer for Roland Emmerich's Teen Choice Award-nominated film 2012, you'll notice that the world isn't supposed to end until December of 2012, meaning we've still got 12 more months to account for, so let's make them count.

Personally, I don't believe in making New Year's resolutions for myself, because obviously if there was a way for me to be more awesome, I'd already be doing it. I do, however, believe in making resolutions for other people, because while I don't enjoy evaluating my own life choices, I do take pleasure in judging other people's. And you know who needs the most help in paving a new path for the new year? Television. Don't get me wrong -- 2011 was a pretty good year for TV, especially considering it was our first year without Lost (sniff, sniff). 2011 gave us the best season of Parks & Recreation to date, a somewhat miraculous fourth season of Fringe, and Eric and Sookie finally hooked up on True Blood, so all in all, not too shabby. But I think we can all agree, there's certainly room for improvement. So listen up, TV, and resolve yourself to be better than you think you are.
