Cher's death hoax, Cher is not dead, folks, but merely the victim of the latest Twitter death hoax -- a hoax enhanced by Kim Kardashian temporarily spreading the uncertainty to her nearly 13 million followers.

Early Friday morning, a Twitter user who goes by the name “Lorraine Star” was bragging, “I started the Cher Trending topic Because I'm God.” Seems Star on Thursday night first tweeted “Cher Died, follow me” at Justin Bieber, then sent out a fake retweet of a fake CNN message, “American recording artist Cher dies at 65 years old. Found dead in Malibu home.”

“Did I juist [sic] hear Cher has passed away? Is this real? OMG,” Kardashian said. “I hope this is a twitter joke and not true. I don't see it on the news anywhere. I'm praying its not true...”

Guess those prayers paid off for Kimmy, who next said, “Can't believe people would make up a sick joke like Cher died. These people need to get a life! Thanks twitter for clearing that up!”

Of course, while Kardashian was going through her 140-character voyage of discovery about Cher’s health, she had actually passed along the “sick joke” to any of her 12,800,000 or so followers who might have been watching at the time. Oops.

As one tweep said in response, “Can't believe u would immediately start tweeting about it before finding out facts.”

Cher, who turns 66 in May, has not Tweeted since Sunday; however, a good friend, jewelry designer Loree Rodkin, set the record straight Thursday night, posting “Whoever started that stupid rumor needs to have their face dragged across concrete… #cher is FINE,” and adding later, “she’s so NOT dead.”
