Homeless billionaire

A homeless billionaire is making top news this week. While Nicolas Berggruen is not included in Romney's 46% no taxes video, the eccentric wealthy man is arguably one of the most interesting persons in the world. Despite having boatloads of money, he does not own a home. Bloomberg ran a story about the man who lives on a shoestring, but spares no expense when entertaining guests, primarily the 1% with long lines of currency. The so-called homeless billionaire said this in a recent interview: "Everybody is different and I think that we live in a material world. But for me, possessing things is not that interesting.
Living in a grand environment to show myself and others that I have wealth has zero appeal. Whatever I own is temporary, since we’re only here for a short period of time. It’s what we do and produce, it’s our actions, that will last forever. That’s real value." Nicolas Berggruen, 51, is chairman of an equity firm bearing his name. Years ago, the youthful-looking investor, known for his philanthropy, sold his homes and material goods. He believes life is about impact not things or possessions. "I'm not that interested in material things. As long as I find a good bed that I can sleep in, that's enough," he added. While his mansions, only car and priceless possessions are sold off, he still lives like a boss. No longer does he have a permanent address. Instead, he bounces between lavish hotels and still rubs elbows with Hollywood A-Listers and dignitaries. Therefore, he clearly is not who Romney referred to in the 47% no taxes video. The homeless billionaire reference is a play on words; Berggruen is still worth $2.3 billion. However, his focus is on saving the world through proper governance. Today, he is focused like a laser on politics and philosophy. With his money, he can think about how to change the world over room service.
