Canadians have new patriotic swagger, Canadians Have New Patriotic Swagger, The provocative results of a new survey challenge the long-held notion that Canadians are reluctant to be as outwardly patriotic as their brash American neighbours. The Ipsos-Reid online survey of 1,100 people – conducted for the Historica-Dominion Institute in the days leading up to the Canada Day long weekend – suggest the Canadian sense of national pride is becoming an in-your-face swagger.
That is particularly true when it comes to the country’s most potent national symbol: the maple leaf.
One in five of those surveyed said they would consider getting a tattoo of a Canadian flag somewhere on their body.
They didn’t say where.
But respondents from Saskatchewan and Manitoba seemed the most eager, as well as those under 55.
“We’re talking about a country that traditionally was not very extroverted in a way that Americans or Brits are,” said Jeremy Diamond, the institute’s national director.
Leaning house in west Toronto prompts evacuations, Leaning House In West Toronto Prompts Evacuations, Construction at a home in the Runnymede Road and Dundas Street West area had an unintended consequence Wednesday when the house visibly tilted, sparking concerns it may collapse.
Crews at the home on Maria Street were digging out the basement Wednesday when it became apparent late in the afternoon that something was wrong. Firefighters were called to the scene, and the home was then evacuated, as were the neighbouring properties.
Charlie Gatt, whose parents own the affected home, lives next door.
“Of course I’m worried about them. One, where are they going to go? He has medication in the house that he needs to take,” Gatt told CBC News
“Now they’re saying we can’t go inside until someone gives us permission to go inside.”
As of late Wednesday, it was not known when the neighbours could go back home.
Bank robber had to be cut out of air duct, A wig-wearing man broke into a suburban Chicago bank vault and nearly made off with $100,000 but got stuck in an air duct and had to be cut out hours later, authorities said Sunday.
Charles Estell, 38, was found early Sunday hiding in an air duct in an office next to the bank, according to Oak Lawn police spokesman Michael Kaufmann.
The Chicago man had allegedly robbed the suburban bank Saturday afternoon, and pointed a gun at bank employees who confronted him in the vault, according to the FBI.
"I don't want to kill or hurt you," Estell said, according to the criminal complaint. "I just want the money."
He allegedly stuffed $100,000 in a backpack and fled. Employees told authorities it appeared he escaped through the ceiling.
Authorities spent hours searching for him and located him around 1 a.m. Sunday. But before they could cut him loose from the air duct, they had to remove a wig of long, beaded dreadlocks he was wearing.
According to the criminal complaint, Estell told investigators that he got into the vault through the ceiling.
Estell was charged Sunday with one felony count of bank robbery and could face up to 20 years in prison. He has not entered a plea, and is due back in court Tuesday. It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer. A phone message left Sunday at a number listed as his wasn't immediately returned.

Cruise Ship Steward Sues John Travolta - The cruise ship steward who claims John Travolta exposed himself during a neck massage and then embraced him is suing the actor for assault.
Fabian Zanzi was working on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in 2009. Travolta, who was a passenger on the ship, had ordered food and asked that Zanzi deliver it to his stateroom. When Zanzi was in the room, Travolta allegedly asked for a neck massage. Zanzi claims when he reached for Travolta's neck, the actor dropped his robe and exposed his erect penis and then forcefully embraced him.
Travolta allegedly then told Zanzi he was "beautiful" and said, "Take me, I will take care of you, please."
Zanzi says he resisted, and then Travolta offered him $12k to maintain a wall of silence.
Zanzi says he went to cruise ship management to complain but they refused to allow him to write out any details regarding nudity or sexual contact.
Zanzi is suing for unspecified damages.
Paris Jackson & Boyfriend, Looks like the young woman that father Michael Jackson once so valiantly tried to shield from prying media attention has become the thing that her father had feared. A walking media whore and at only the age of 14.
Since her father’s death, 3 years ago this very day, the secrecy and privacy surrounding his children has been removed courtesy of the new guardian’s of Mr Jackson’s children, his parents, who haven’t spared a second milking their grandchildren’s legacy. Which introduces the following fluff piece.
Seen strutting the local cinema complexes in her native LA, with a new boy, the paparazzi were more than ready to snap away and share in the glee (you can bet your bottom dollar this was an orchestrated coup kids) of Paris Jackson‘s new love interest.
Of course then came the questions of who the new boy was and all the sound advice that Paris had been given by her aunt, Janet, the queen of dating and affairs of the pre adolescents:
dailymail.co.uk: The teen has been turning to her aunt Janet Jackson for advice, while her older brother Prince has been talking to prospective boyfriends to warn them to treat her right.
A source told the National Enquirer: ‘Janet acts like both a mom and a friend to Paris. She’s chatted with her niece about how she should wait many years before she is intimate with a guy.
‘She also listens to Paris when she speaks about her crushes and answers her questions and boys.’
Jerry sandusky son allegations,Even as the jury in the Jerry Sandusky sexual molestation case deliberated into the evening before suspending until 9 a.m. Friday ET, the case was rocked by a late-breaking allegation.
Matt Sandusky, Jerry and Dottie Sandusky's 33-year-old adopted son, released a statement through his attorney saying the trial had sparked painful memories of being abused himself by the former Penn State defensive coordinator.
Matt had become so convinced of his own abuse that he called prosecutors earlier this week and expressed a willingness to testify against his father. He'd started the trial on the defense witness list.
"This has been an extremely painful experience for Matt and he has asked us to convey his request that the media respect his privacy. There will be no further comment," his attorney said in a statement first reported by the Harrisburg (Pa.) Patriot-News.
So why didn't special deputy attorney general Joseph E. McGettigan III call what would've been a blockbuster witness against his father, who faces 48 counts for abusing 10 boys over a 15 year period?
He couldn't. At least he couldn't without risking the defense being able to call for a continuance that may have delayed the trial for months and caused the reseating of a jury and the potential retrying of a case the state feels very strong about.
Matt Sandusky's revelations came too late. He wasn't included in the original indictment, meaning he couldn't be a prosecution witness without the defense arguing that they need time to prepare for the new charge.
The only way for Matt Sandusky to become a witness would've been if Jerry Sandusky had testified in his own defense. Then on cross-examination, McGettigan could've addressed the potential abuse and later called Matt Sandusky as a rebuttal witness but not as an alleged victim.
That may have played into the defense's decision to not put Jerry Sandusky on the stand, which defense sources say wasn't made until Wednesday morning, just hours before it rested its case.
"If they put [Matt] on this week, the defense would've asked for a continuance because they would've had no time to prepare," said ESPN legal analyst Roger Cossack. "So they only could've introduced him if Jerry Sandusky had testified."

Kim Kardashian Yes My Sex Tape Introduced Me to the World- Kim Kardashian Yes My Sex Tape Introduced Me To The World, Before the world began keeping up with her family’s antics, before the fragrance lines and before the magazine covers, Kim Kardashian was famous for the infamous. But now, five years since her sex tape with ex-boyfriend Ray J was released, the reality star says she understands the impact it’s had on her career.
“Would you be where you are had there not been a sex tape?” Oprah Winfrey asked Kardashian on Sunday’s Oprah’s Next Chapter.
“You know, I think that’s how I was definitely introduced to the world,” Kardashian, 31, said of the sex tape, which was the focus of a lawsuit until she settled with Vivid Entertainment to distribute it. “It was a negative way, so I felt like I really had to work 10 times harder to get people to see the real me.”
Shooting down the long-lived rumor she released the tape herself, she says she’s always been concerned about “humiliating the family,” including mom Kris Jenner, 56, stepfather Bruce Jenner, 62, sisters Kourtney, 33, KhloĂ©, 27, Kendall, 16, Kylie, 14, and brother Rob, 25, who joined her on the special.
Bethel Taco Bell- The residents of a small town in Alaska shed a nacho tear Thursday after they learned that advertisements for a new Taco Bell were a hoax.
Yellow flyers had been posted on bulletin boards around Bethel, Alaska, population 6,000, advertising employment at a Taco Bell restaurant. The flyers included a fake website and phone number, and caused a buzz in a town that has no fast- food restaurants.
Bonnie Bradbury, administrative assistant at the Bethel Chamber of Commerce, said, "I think it caused a stir of excitement. We probably have a dozen mom-and-pop type restaurants. The only chain we have is Subway."
Bradbury admitted to checking the bogus website herself, noting that the page resembled the Taco Bell site but didn't give any contact information. The phone number on the flyers belonged to a private resident, who'd enlisted Bradbury's help in stopping the deluge of phone calls.
On Tuesday, Alaska radio station KYUK confirmed from Denali Foods Inc. that the flyers were a hoax. "I repeat, Bethel is not getting a Taco Bell," said the announcer. Denali Foods Inc. operates all of the Taco Bells in the state.
Common triggers headaches- Almost everyone has suffered a headache at one point or another. Some of those headaches being so severe the victim just wants to curl up and die. While others can be easily eradicated by just taking a couple of aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol).
The good news is that most headaches are easily avoided, or prevented just by recognizing what your personal triggers are.
There are two main causes for headaches. The first, and most common, is tension or stress. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about here. Stress occurs on a daily, sometimes hourly, basis for most if not all of us.

Taliban Attack Kabul Hotel Nine Guests - Elite Afghan police backed by NATO forces ended a 12-hour siege on Friday at a popular lakeside hotel outside Kabul, leaving at least 20 dead after Taliban gunmen stormed the lakeside building, bursting into a party and seizing dozens of hostages.
Insurgents first killed the security guards at the hotel, then stormed inside it and began firing at guests who were dining. Some of the guests escaped while others were held hostage as the attackers battled Afghan security forces who rushed to the scene for the next 12 hours. Kabul police said all five attackers had been shot and killed by midday Friday, ending the standoff.
Afghan President Hamid Karzai condemned the incident, the latest in a string of attacks this week that suggest the insurgent group is pushing hard with its summer offensive rather than waiting for international forces to draw down. The strike at the hotel, about a half-hour drive from the capital, was a reminder that the Taliban can still hit very close to the seat of the Afghan government.

Rich Oilman Ranch Stampede, The Calgary Stampede is marking its 100th birthday this year and already it’s gotten one humdinger of a present — more than 3,000 hectares of a historic Alberta ranch, valued at $11 million. Wealthy oilman Bill Siebens is turning a portion of his 130-year-old OH property over to the Stampede Foundation, along with the ranch’s 1885 ranch house, the old cookhouse and a replica of a North West Mounted Police cabin.
The foundation is working to come up with a management plan for the ranch with an eye to preserving and promoting western heritage and values.
“Alberta has been my home for 54 years,” said Siebens, founder of Siebens Oil and Gas Ltd. and a member of the Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame.
“I made my career in the oil business, raised my family here and have a deep attachment and love for the Foothills country west of Calgary.”
The philanthropist, who modestly remarked that “things turned out well for me,” said he wanted to give a gift to the Stampede in part because he has attended 54 of the annual rodeos.
Bullied Bus Monitor, a Windfall to Ease the Pain, All bullied bus monitor Karen Klein wanted was an apology. Now she's getting that … and then some.
Police say the four boys who tormented the 68-year-old on a school bus in upstate New York earlier this week have taken responsibility for their actions. The students are also saying they're sorry.
"I feel really bad about what I did," one said in a statement to CNN. "I wish I had never done those things. If that had happened to someone in my family, like my mother or grandmother, I would be really mad at the people who did that to them."
Another said, "When I saw the video I was disgusted and could not believe I did that. I am sorry for being so mean, and I will never treat anyone this way again."
The video of the seventh-graders cursing, taunting and physically threatening a crying Klein has become a rallying point against bullying. It has also prompted an overwhelming outpouring of support for the longtime school bus worker.
An online campaign to fund a vacation for Klein had grown to more than $500,000 by Friday afternoon, far surpassing the initial $5,000 goal. Max Sidorov, the Toronto man who started the fund two days ago, said he did so partly because he was bullied himself as a child.
"Maybe we can send her on a great, early retirement," Sidorov told The Associated Press.
Then Anderson Cooper surprised the grandmother of eight on CNN Thursday night with an all-expenses paid trip for nine people to Disneyland from Southwest Airlines. The Walt Disney Co. made the same offer for Disney World.
